DEGIRO price alerts: get an email when your target price is hit
DEGIRO does not offer price alerts, neither in its app nor in the web trader. With the free Chrome extension ClearAnalyser you set up to three price levels per position (for example a stop and a target) and get a Chrome notification as soon as the price hits one of them; Premium (€3.50 a month) adds an email through your own Gmail, even while your computer is switched off.

DEGIRO has no price alert
Look for a “notify me at this price” button in DEGIRO and you won’t find one. It isn’t in the app and it isn’t in the web trader. BrokerChooser confirms it in its broker comparison: DEGIRO offers no price alerts and no notifications.
What DEGIRO does have are order types that act automatically at a price: the limit order, the stop loss, the stop limit and, on Xetra and Frankfurt only, the trailing stop (DEGIRO, order types). An order executes. An alert lets you decide. When to use which is covered in Stop loss or price alert on DEGIRO?.
The result: most DEGIRO investors keep their plan in their head. “At €600 I buy more, below €520 I’m out.” Then they check the price every day, or they miss the moment.
Most portfolio trackers don’t have price alerts either. Which ones do is covered in the comparison of DEGIRO portfolio trackers.
Why you set your levels in advance
Investors sell winners too early and hold on to losers too long. Shefrin and Statman called this the disposition effect in 1985, and it has since been found in many markets (Journal of Finance, 1985). The reason is simple: in the moment, taking a loss feels like admitting you were wrong.
A level you set on a quiet Sunday doesn’t have that problem. The alert reminds you of what you decided while you were still thinking clearly.
How to set a price alert with ClearAnalyser
ClearAnalyser is a DEGIRO Chrome extension that runs inside the DEGIRO web trader. Since version 1.1.1 it has a Scenario Alerts tab, and that tab is free.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and log in to DEGIRO as usual. You don’t need an account with us.
- Add positions. There are three ways. “Import from portfolio” brings in your current holdings, including your average purchase price. “+ Add position” searches for a product by name, ticker or ISIN. And every product page in DEGIRO gets a bell icon that adds that product straight away.
- Set your scenarios. Each position gets up to three scenarios: Bear, Base and Bull. Each scenario has a role (stop, target or neutral) and a trigger.
- Drag the levels on the chart. Your levels appear on the price chart, from one day to the full history. The risk/reward ratio updates as you drag; how to use it to size a position is explained in Risk/reward and position size.
There are four kinds of trigger:
| Trigger | Example |
|---|---|
| Price above / Price below | ASML below €600 |
| Return vs. avg. cost price | 15% loss on your average cost |
| Day change | Down more than 5% today |
| Trailing from peak | 12% below the highest price since you set the scenario |
The last one works like a trailing stop, but as an alert and on any exchange. DEGIRO’s own trailing stop order is only available on Xetra and Frankfurt (DEGIRO, Orders and Order Execution Policy).
How often is the price checked?
Every 1, 5 or 15 minutes during trading hours; you choose in the settings. ClearAnalyser follows the trading hours of the market your position belongs to, so a US stock is checked in the European afternoon and evening and a European stock during the day.
Out of the box, monitoring runs as long as Chrome is open. The DEGIRO tab doesn’t need to be open.
Email alerts, even with your computer off
The Chrome notification is free. Premium (€3.50 a month or €39 a year) adds four things:
- Email through your own Gmail. You connect your Gmail account in the settings. The mail goes from your account to your address; ClearAnalyser has no mail server that sees your messages.
- An early warning. You get a heads-up when the price comes within a few percent of your level, so you have time to think before the level is hit.
- Monitoring while your computer is off. You add a small script to your own Google account. It checks prices and emails you. It runs at Google under your account, not on our servers.
- The order pre-filled. One click in the email or the alert log opens DEGIRO with the order filled in. You always place it yourself.
Quiet hours and a daily email budget stop you from being mailed at 3 a.m. or twenty times a day. Alerts from quiet hours arrive bundled afterwards.
An example
Say you hold 20 ASML shares with an average cost of €640. You set three scenarios:
- Bear (stop): price below €560. That is 12.5% below your purchase price.
- Base (neutral): a daily move of more than 6%. Then you want to read the news.
- Bull (target): price above €800. There you consider selling part of the position.
ASML itself showed that a daily move of that size happens. On 15 October 2024 the company accidentally published its quarterly results a day early and the share closed 16% lower (CNBC, 15 October 2024). Anyone who wasn’t watching the screen only found out in the evening.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set a price alert in the DEGIRO app?
No. DEGIRO offers no price alerts, neither in the app nor in the web trader. You can place a stop loss or limit order, but it executes without notifying you first.
Is the ClearAnalyser price alert free?
Yes. The Scenario Alerts tab with Chrome notifications and up to three levels per position is free, with no time limit. Email, early warnings, cloud monitoring and pre-filled orders are part of Premium.
Can I set an alert on a stock I don’t own yet?
Yes. With “+ Add position” or the bell icon on a product page you can add any product DEGIRO offers, without owning it. How to use that to buy at an entry level is explained in Buying the dip on DEGIRO.
Does it work for ETFs and turbos too?
Yes, for shares, ETFs, bonds and leveraged products. For turbos ClearAnalyser uses DEGIRO’s own price feed. What to watch out for with turbos is covered in Turbos on DEGIRO: get warned before your knock-out level is hit.
Where is my data stored?
On your own computer. Your positions and scenarios are stored in your browser, emails go through your own Gmail and the optional cloud monitoring runs in your own Google account. See also the privacy policy.
